Andy Hunt outsprints Arwel Davies for third
This ‘love it or hate it’ hilly course certainly has its followers and many regulars again showed up on a fine dry day in Penparcau for the race which takes in the rural roads of north Ceredigion, notably the old mining areas of Pontrhydygroes and Llanafan.

A few early breaks came to nothing and it wasn;t until the second lap of the three and a half lap race that Guy Stevens of Abergavenny RC attempted a solo break which at one stage was up to 40 seconds only for the Gwent rider to sit up and await the bunch to catch him once this gap started to dwindle.
It wasn’t long before another few riders tried to break away at the bell with 13 miles remaining and eventually two riders, Simon Owens of Sheffield based Peak Racing Club and George Rose of Abergavenny Racing Club established a healthy lead.
These two experienced riders knew exactly what they were doing and hit the peleton hard with their move and they were not seen again as Rose later dropped Owens to take a solo victory with Owens just hanging on for second place, with the final 1km climb seeing a surge in effort from the bunch thanks to an attack at the bottom from local hopeful Andy Hunt who put his training efforts into practise to charge home in third place outsprinting Arwel Davies of Bynea CC and Jerry Rayner (Somer Valley).

The remainder of the bunch then followed, spread over the next 40 seconds with lantern rouge, Austin Heath at well over 60 years of age, coming in a very respectable 33 minutes behind the winner.
