Cwmrheidol 10 mile TT result – Round 15

10th July 2009

A blustery night down the valley for the riders this time, with a stiff breeze on the outward leg although a tailwind is always welcome on the hillier return.

First rider back on the night was Andy Cox who took the timekeepers by surprise with his 25.39 and a few minutes later, Dewi Hughes rumbled past the line with a flat back tyre, yet still posted 24.15 which conveyed his current form. Another fast ride on the night was Paul Robinson, a rider that made regular forays into the 23′s and even 22′s in years gone by is taking things a little easier this year, yet his 24.36 showed that he is still in the mix.

The PB’s were not as forthcoming as the previous week, due to the weather, although Dewi Rattray did manage his with 28.58 for 19th on the night.  Elinor Thorogood made a welcome appearance at an Ystwyth event with her younger brother Ollie and her time of 27.01 put her a fantastic 11th out of 29 with Ollie, only 13 years old in his first ever TT recorded 39.10 (watch this space!).

Their father Danny again rode to a 22 minute time, this time 22.41 and he’ll be looking to better this, as will all the competitors at next weeks, supposedly faster Llety Gwyn 10 mile course.

This is in aid of two charities (LATCH & Christian Lewis Trust), chosen by Murray & Imogen Pugh, son and daughter of Gary who was an inspiring figure in the local community for many years due to his involvement in local sport, especially childrens sport, having set up and managed no less than eight teams in the Aberystwyth mini minor league.

The route is approx. 620 miles in length over eight days, starting on Saturday 22nd August 2009 at 09:00am from the staion yard in Llanilar where Murray & Imogen will join other children and adults in following Dewi & Iwan along the Ystwyth cycle route towards Llanfarian to see the pair off towards Oswestry, which is their first stop on the tour after 75 miles. Llety 10 mile TT result – 1st July

5th July 2009

16 PB’s – Surely a record!

There were no less than 16 PB’s on a ‘float’ night on the A44. Perfect conditions greeted the 29 riders with many getting times well below their target times for the season.

Danny Thorogood took the win with 22.20 from Shelley Childs (23.09) with Paul Jones third with 23.29 (PB). The 23 minute zone is a rare place for Ystwyth’s cyclists unless your name is Danny Thorogood and so it was nice to see no less than four new 23 minute times on the night, with Dewi Hughes and Jeff Saycell marking their first performances at this level.

The times contiuned to tumble amongst the result list with Martyn Saycell’s PB of 25.13 making him the joint fastest in the 25-26 min category (with Paul Robinson) ahead of a clutch of riders who also rode well on the night, namely Euros Jones, Colin Armstrong & Arwel Jones.

Matt Ingham returned to the time trials after a few weeks off to take fastest 27-28 minute time ahead of Dave Langford & Dafydd Davies (PB) and Ray Jenkins pipped Andy Eden in the 29-30 category.

Gail Birkett was first lady with a marvellous 28.11 after stint of alpine training which has evidentally paid off.
