Danny beats record!

Despite a change of start position compared to the previous record, Danny has set a new fastest time for the ascent with 4.08 from the current start position, compared to Dafydd Dylan’s 4.14 from the cottage drive after the hump bridge in 2005. Maybe the two need a run-off in 2010 to see who is fastest

Danny was the only rider to use his low profile machine on the course, surley meaning next years race will be flooded with tri bars & disc wheels also, as he beat his own PB by a substantial margin!

The turnout for the final event of the TT season was nothing short of remarkable, 32 riders for a  club hillclimb, a fugure that some open events would see as standard.

Andy Hunt was second, 14 seconds up on Dewi Hughes with Paul Brewer a close fourth. Martin Swanson took on allcomers on his bulky freeride MTB and rode to a sub 5 minute time which was astounding,  

Arwel Jones was the best of the >5 minuters in 9th place with 5.01 whislt Andy Davies was first in the >6 minute category with 6.00 and Martin Jones took first >7 min time with 7.07.

‘McGuiness Steals the Show’

North Wales second category rider Gareth McGuiness displayed his superiority on possibly the hilliest road race course in Wales at the 64 mile Ystwyth Cycling Club Autumn road race. Finishing with 49 seconds to spare over team mate William Haynes and Raleigh’s David Weir, McGuiness enjoyed his solo descent of some 9 miles from Devils Bridge to Aberystwyth after making his move on the last climb of the day, the notorious one and a half mile rise out of Pontrhydygroes towards Devils Bridge, known by the local cyclists as the ‘49’er’.

The top three finishers had made their move on the equally tough 13 mile ‘Mining Valleys’ circuit earlier in the race, which was negotiated three and a half times, along with two other riders who fell away in the later stages. The three built a formidable lead and were not seen again by the dwindling peleton although Peak RC rider Simon Owens, a regular top three finisher and former winner initiated a second group on the road and subsequently won the sprint from this group of three to take fourth place on the day, just over two minutes down on McGuiness.

Local riders Murdo Jamieson (East London Velo) and Andy Hunt (Ystwyth CC) also featured all day with Murdo taking sixth and Hunt eventually ninth.
