Miss Williams

17th February 2010

The club was sad to hear of the passing of our life member Miss E Williams recently at Plas Cwmcynfelin nursing home. Miss Williams was a patron of the club and during the 70’s and 80’s was an active member, helping out at all the various club events of the era, including the Tour of Mid Wales, Round the Houses criteriums, Hilly 33 mile Mountain TT and many more. During the late 80’s and early 90’s, the clubs finances were perilously low and on more than one occasion, Miss Williams put her hand in her pocket to save not only the club from going out of business, but also some of the events which also required funding at the time.

Her interest in the club came through her partner Mr Joe Beckett, a name which is also remembered via the Most Improved Rider trophy these days, donated by his colleagues from a laundry on the Shetland Islands in the 1980’s. Former winners include Dafydd Dylan, Paul Gisbourne and Alastair Rhodes. This year the award was shared by Gari Jones and Arwel Jones.

The club will be represented at Miss Williams funeral by Ken Williams, John Gisbourne and Glyn Evans and will make a donation to the British Heart Foundation.
