Another super windy and rainy night meant that last years high of 50 entrants was reduced to 17 battle hardened soles for 2011’s Ystwyth Hill Climb champs on the famous Llangorwen – Penglais Farm course over 1 mile.

The spirit was lightened by Iuean Andy Davies’s whistle and Luca Tedaldi’s airhorn as the riders rode through the covered tree lined section in near darkness. Poor Richard Anthony was subjected to a tirade of encouragement of ‘Officer and a Gentlemen’ standards from the whistle blower from the start up to the first bend.

Arwel Jones was the early leader posting a healthy sub 5 minute 4.56. Shelley was next to challenge and kept a low gear spinning all the way for 4.37. This was then challenged by Carwyn Henson and Paul Brewer who both put in sub 5 minute times, whilst Ieuan Andy also gave his best shot as did James Purkiss. Both these men had ridden a hard & successful Rhyl circuit race the previous night and it showed in their performance.

Paul Tedaldi rode to a PB, one of very few on the night due to the conditions whilst Alan Haird also showed good form ahead of the Welsh Vets Road Race and Dylan Lewis also approached the hallowed 5 minute mark with 5.06. Stephen Williams was first Youth in 6.25 and Lois Brewer took the womens award with a fantastic 6.20.

So Shelley took a rare win on the night with Carwyn in second and Paul Brewer and Arwel Jones tieing for third place.
