The first Ystwyth 10 of the year was held in glorious weather which promised some good early season times. Many Ystwyth members had been training hard over the winter, others had denied almost any training yet turned out some pretty handy times. There were also some great individual battles, and a surprising number of dead heats.

35 rides in all turned up, including a healthy number of students who also showed well on the night.

Well done to Stephen Williams who improved by almost 2 minutes on last year, after some hard winter miles on the Sunday runs with the seniors, and also to Steffan Saycell who also saw significant gains. His father took the spoils on the night in a tight battle with Andy Hunt who is showing good early season form, missing the win by 3 seconds. Well done to Jeff and a mention must also go to Amanda Binks who has thrown her hat into the ring early doors for the fastest lady award.

Brian Ashton forgot his shoes yet still pulled out a sub 30′ but Tedaldi will enjoy his glass of red tonight, striking first in the Penguin Trophy competition.

We’ve been fortunate once again to be nominated as a host venue for this years Halfords Tour Series event. This will take place on Friday 25^th May, from 2pm with support races similar to last year, building up to the main event at 7pm.

We’re also planning a weekend of activities this year, and have launched the Aberystwyth Cycle Festival www.abercyclefest.com. Take a look on the website, and over the next few weeks we’ll be adding activities which will take place throughout the town, such as GoRide children’s challenges on the prom, a downhill event on Constitution Hill, food zone, family zone, sport zone, green zone a bike fashion parade and much more. We’re also open to suggestions from members, so if you think of an event that you’d like to see in Aberystwyth over that weekend, let us know!

Again, Ystwyth CC are at the heart of the event organisation with Martin Jones, Jeff & Shelley assisted by Paul Brewer in coordinating the day from start to finish.

We’d really appreciate your help again this year. The Tour Series directors commented on the professionalism of the marshalling at last year’s event, in adverse weather conditions so well done to all.
